MIRI (Aug 31): Local activist Anthony Lawai Karing is calling on the Health Ministry to permanently station an ambulance at Long San health clinic in Ulu Baram.

Anthony, 84, who is a former Baram District Council councillor, said the clinic needs an ambulance to send patients requiring further treatment or emergency follow-up treatment to Miri Hospital.

“No ambulance since early this year and when there are patients who are in critical condition or needing emergency treatment, the clinic will have to request for a helicopter,” he said when met here recently.

When asked on the condition of Long San clinic, Anthony said the clinic has been moved to a better location but still within the same vicinity.

“The community there would like to thank the government for relocating the clinic to the new premises because the previous one would be hit by flash flood each time there was a heavy rain.

“At least, at the new premises, the clinic is more conducive and clean for those coming in to seek treatment,” he said.

He hope that the government would soon build a proper clinic in Long San not just to cater to the community in Long San, but also several other villages including the Penan villages in Ulu Baram.
