FIRA RoboWorld Cup: Malaysian Robotics Team Bags Six Medals In Germany

KUALA LUMPUR: The Polytechnic and Community College (POLYCC) robotics team won six medals. exceeding its five-medal target, at the 2023 FIRA RoboWorld Cup in Germany that took place from July 17 to 21.

The Department of Polytechnic Education and Community Colleges (JPPKK), Ministry of Higher Education, in a statement today said the team, comprising six participants from Politeknik Sultan Idris Shah (PSIS) and Politeknik Sultan Azlan Shah (PSAS) bagged a gold, silver and bronze medal each.

The PSIS team won medals in the triple jump (gold), archery (silver) and the lift and carry events (bronze), whereas the PSAS team bagged gold in the lift and carry event, silver in basketball and bronze in archery.

JPPKK senior director (Academics) Md Noor Shahud said this year’s participation involved the smallest number of participants compared to 30 to 40 students previously, adding that of the six participants three of them were in Germany while the rest stayed in Malaysia to help their team members online.

Of the three participants in Germany, two are PSIS students namely Muhammad Zikry Iman Mohd Sohaimi (Diploma in Electronic Engineering (Communications)) and Anwar Syahiddin Shamsul Anuar (Diploma in Electronic Engineering (Computer)), as well as PSAS student Muhammad Farhan Misron@Misni (Diploma in Electronic Engineering (Computer)).

“Even though we had only a small number of students who participated this time, winning six medals is something extraordinary,” he said.

Md Noor also said the main reason for the smaller number of entries from POLYCC was that sending more participants would have required a higher allocation, besides the changes in the competition rules for the AndroSot category.

“The POLYCC team in this category would need to make adjustments before going for the next tournament. The POLYCC team still needs the latest technological equipment to be able to compete better,” he added. – Bernama
