Borneo Divers director Datuk Abdul Hajan Gurimbang said foreign tourist arrivals in Semporna are increasing, and some 2,000 Chinese tourists are projected to visit Semporna from now on.
“Chinese tourists have started heading to islands such as Sipadan, Bohey Dulang, Mabul Island and others.
“The arrival of international tourists can further boost the local economy and provide new opportunities for young people, especially in the tourism industry, boat owners and divers, and also create jobs,” he told Bernama.
According to him, Borneo Divers Mabul Resort is also fully booked until the end of this year.
Meanwhile, D Zen MICE Travel Sdn Bhd’s Executive General Manager, Kenny Khan said that since January, there have been many enquiries from China for holiday packages in Malaysia, especially Sabah.
“For example, this May, in Sipadan over 100 participants from China will be here for an underwater wedding event.
Kenny also supports the idea of having direct flights from Guangzhou, China to Tawau, saying it would help reduce cost and time. – Bernama
